Töppösuo wetland was made to the lands owned by Kuurnan Voima Co. in 2018 to stop loading from the west to Jukajoki river. A beaver couple started to live on the wetland soon after that.

Kissapuro is an important part of the Jukajoki river restoration actions. Kisspuro stream and catchment area has been surveyed for erosion, acidic sites and for its contribution of iron loading into lake Jukajärvi.

Oravasuo is a open mire, 18 hectares, located in the municipality of Ähtäri.

In July 2010 Heikki Roivas, a fisherman from the village of Selkie observed a flock of gulls flying over river Jukajoki. The gulls were feasting on dead fish floating in the river. 
The conditions in the river had become deadly due to very acidic discharge from nearby peat mining area. The next summer (2011) the fish died again. These sad events have led to a lot of action. A large scale watershed-wide restoration began after these events.

Musta-ahvenjärvi OGF is a significant old growth forest and rewilding forest area in the Vainosjoki catchment, totaling 35 hectares.

Kivisuo is a 650 hectare nationally significant aapa mire. It is an important nesting area and resting location for EU-level bird populations, including Peregrine Falcon. The site is fully protected under the national HELMI conservation programme.
